A Guide for All of Humankind.

The Qur’an is a unique scripture, preserved in its original form since the day it was revealed over 1,400 years ago. It is a source of guidance for all of humankind, and its authenticity and preservation are of great importance to Muslims.

Why preservation matters

To ensure the preservation of any scripture, it must meet specific criteria. The Qur’an stands out from other religious texts in that it has been both written and memorised in its entirety from the time it was revealed until the present day, in a continuous and unbroken chain. This serves as a check and balance — ensuring that the written scripture remains pure and free from errors.

Every Muslim child who learns to recite the Qur’an becomes part of that same unbroken chain of transmission that stretches back to the Prophet ﷺ himself.

A living document

The Qur’an is not just a historical text, but a living document that continues to provide guidance and inspiration to Muslims today. By studying and internalising its teachings, we can gain a deeper understanding of our faith and strengthen our relationship with God.

The Qur’an covers a range of subjects — from moral values and ethics to historical events and accounts — providing a complete framework for the practice of Islam.

Memorising the Qur’an is a highly respected tradition in Islam. Those who have memorised the entire text are known as a Ḥāfiẓ, and they hold a special place in the hearts of the Muslim community. The Qur’an is recited with a unique form of elocution called Tajwīd, and it is often the focus of special prayer services during the month of Ramaḍān.
